CAREER PROGRESSION GUIDE

The effectiveness of the Air Force in fulfilling its mission is contingent upon the recruitment and development of personnel possessing specialized knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values. These knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values are instilled in our airmen through comprehensive education, targeted training, valuable hands-on experience, and seasoned with thoughtful mentoring by more experienced Airmen. Collectively, these elements contribute to cultivating
a highly skilled and disciplined force capable of meeting the challenges of the PAF’s mission. As our military personnel gain experience and expertise in their chosen field, they also advance in their respective careers, which may manifest in the form of promotions, increased responsibilities, or new positions.
The Career Progression Guide for PAF Military Personnel emphasizes continuous skill and knowledge development, acknowledging the dynamic nature of military operations and global security. It emphasizes the importance of training, education, and experiential learning in enhancing capabilities and ensuring personnel can adapt to an evolving environment. General Officer Tier
As the name suggests, the General Officer Tier consists of our highest-ranking officers, the Generals. As the highest-ranking commissioned officers, these honorable individuals are responsible for directing the activities of larger groups, such as wings and commands. Their job is to mold and lead the military organization's overall course and ensure the accomplishment of its mission.

Field Grade Officer Tier
Field-grade officers, holding pay grades O-4 to O-6, assume broader responsibilities, potentially overseeing a larger number of personnel whom they train and manage throughout their assignments. This level of leadership entails a comprehensive approach to command, focusing on training, management, and the strategic coordination of resources.



Company Grade Officer Tier
Company Grade Officers encompass the ranks from Second Lieutenant (2LT) to Captain (CPT). They undertake pivotal responsibilities in administrative and small-group leadership roles, providing crucial support to their assigned personnel.
Within this tier, officers play a key role in facilitating effective communication and coordination within their units. Their duties involve overseeing day-to-day operations and fostering a cohesive team environment.



Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Tier
The pinnacle of EP Corps lies in the Senior Noncommissioned Officer Tier, which includes Master Sergeant (MSg), Senior Master Sergeant (SMS), and Chief Master Sergeant (CMS). Senior Non-commissioned Officers hold a pivotal leadership role within the profession of arms, providing essential guidance, supervision, and mentorship for the growth and development of both Junior Airmen and Noncommissioned Officers.



Non-Commissioned Officer Tier
In this tier, the Non-Commissioned Officers undergo a phase of occupational development that involves becoming expert technicians. Simultaneously, they cultivate their leadership capabilities, assume supervisory roles, hone managerial skills, and embrace mentorship responsibilities within the broader context of the military profession.


Junior Airmen Tier
The Junior Airmen Tier, encompassing ranks from AM/AW to Sergeant, is dedicated to the foundational phase of military service. Members within this tier concentrate on adapting to the dynamic requirements of the military, actively participating in the profession of arms, and acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to become highly productive contributors to the Air Force. This phase serves as a crucial period for personal and professional development, laying the groundwork for future leadership roles within the enlisted ranks.
